Dear Touchstone Families,
So far this summer the students have been learning about recycling and different cultures around the world. Last week, to kick of the summer, we were visited by a recycling specialist who taught the students all about the recycling process by following the life cycle of a plastic bottle. This week, students learned a hula song and dance by some native Hawaiian dancers. Students have also learned about cultural celebrations around the world! Next week we continue our summer adventures by learning about outer space followed by creative expression through art and song!
This month, Touchstone School is partnering with Northwest Children’s Outreach (NCO) to collect various items for students in need. We will be collecting socks, underwear and hygiene products for students aged 5 to 18. All items will be donated at the end of the month to NCO. NCO will then be putting together back-to-school backpacks which they will be handing out in September to the community. Items will be collected in the barrels at the front office during the entire month of July.
To help students get into the spirit of giving back and raise awareness for NCO, Touchstone School will be having a Sock Hop for our students on Friday, July 20. Students are encouraged to wear crazy socks and come in crazy hair to our Sock Hop event. During this time, the entire school will be learning a song and dance. This will be a great way for us to celebrate giving back to others. Thank you for your cooperation and generosity in partnering with us to help our community.
As a reminder, please make sure to be sending your child to school with the appropriate attire and ready to go for the day. This includes having sunscreen on your child when you bring them to school each day. Hats, sunglasses, and water bottles are great supplies to have for your child, but often get misplaced this time of year. Please make sure that your child’s first and last name is on them to minimize loss. Sandals are a great shoe for the summer. We kindly request that all sandals have a back so they stay on throughout the day (no flip flops please).
Thank you,
Gordon Kingsley; Principal
