Dear Touchstone Families,
It’s finally fall and we can’t wait to experience everything this season has to offer with our students and families. We are looking forward to taking the learning outside and are planning special hands-on learning activities in all of our classrooms.
Each year, Touchstone School partners with many non-profit organizations to help support our local community. We find these partnerships help students to learn many valuable skills including compassion, giving, and helping one another. During the month of October, Touchstone School is partnering with Caps and Gowns Foundation. Caps and Gowns Foundation is a non-profit organization that lets kids struggling with severe life trials dress as their favorite hero and gives them a photo experience to remind them their circumstance does not define them. We will be collecting items for the photo shoots, as well as, cash or other donations. Please look for an email with more details.
Fall Picture Day is coming up on Monday, October 29. All students will be getting their pictures taken that day by Lifetouch Photography. After the photos have been taken, you will be given the opportunity to purchase pictures. Flyer and reminders will be sent home as the date gets closer.
Each year our company has all its principals get together for a conference to learn about educational best practices I get to bring back to the school. This year our conference is from October 22-26. During this time I will be out of the state and not at the school. I will have limited access to email during this time and will be getting back to families as I can. Should you need immediate assistance, Ms. Karen is available to answer your questions. She can be reached at karen.veliz@nlcinc.com or by calling the school phone number at 503-466-0143.
Thank you all for your support in helping us get Touchstone School off to a great start with Back to School. It feels so good to see so many wonderful activities happening in the classrooms with so many joyous students. As we get settled into the school year, please remember that I am here to support and to help. Should you have any questions or concerns that arise, I look forward to hearing from you, so we can partner together and create a solution.
Sincerely,
Gordon Kingsley; Principal
Weather Reminders
Despite the unpredictability of fall weather, we try to ensure that our students spend time outdoors each day. Please make sure your child always has a jacket available and a weather appropriate change of clothes in their cubby. We have many fun outdoor activities scheduled for this month and don’t want any of our students to miss out!
Pumpkin Patch Experiences
We are happy to partner with Plumper Pumpkin Patch to provide an outdoor fall experience for all our students. The Intermediate and PreK students will be going on a field trip to Plumper Pumpkin so they may experience on a working farm the bounty of the fall. We will be transforming our Touchstone Garden into a Touchstone Pumpkin Patch for our younger students. This will allow for these students to explore fall here on campus. Students will be able to pick out their own pumpkin, play in the hay, and try apple cider. Parents and families are invited to all these events. For classroom specific dates and times, please see the calendar below.
Halloween Parade
We will hold our fall Halloween Parade on October, 31st at 10:00 a.m. Parents are welcome and children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costume. Costumes can either be worn to school for the event or brought in and changed into just before the parade. Students will be going from class to class to show off their costumes.
