Dear Touchstone Families,
It is hard to believe, but it is almost time to welcome in the month of December. As we start this last month of the year, we celebrate many achievements from November. Our PreK 2 classroom rose over $130 and 5 boxes of food to support the Union Gospel Mission, the Intermediate classroom explored the Native American Culture through legends and folktales, and our Beginner and Blend classrooms have been busy learning and growing in the classroom.
Winter Camp is quickly approaching. Glenda has distributed Winter Camp sign up forms in each parent folder and there are some extra copies on the parent folder shelf if you need another copy. If you are interested in Winter Camp, please make sure you have filled one out and given a copy to Glenda by Friday, December 2. This allows us to know how many students we have so we may staff accordingly. Space is limited, so we recommend signing up early.
This month we are participating in a Pajama Drive. On Friday, December 16, we will have a school wide pajama party to raise pajamas for Northwest Children’s Outreach Programs. During the pajama party, students are encouraged to wear their favorite set of pajamas to school and bring in a new set of pajamas to give to a child in need. We will be collecting the pajamas from December 1 through December 16. There will be a collection box at the front desk. This is a great way for students to get involved and give back to the community while teaching them about helping those in need.
As the temperatures drop, please make sure you are providing your child with the appropriate clothing. It is important to bring items such as a warm jacket, hat, scarf, and gloves. Please feel free to leave a set in your child’s cubby so they can always be prepared. We strive to take the students outside as much as possible to get fresh air and appreciate your cooperation.
As you know, Oregon weather can be very unpredictable. As we head into winter, it is a good time to remind everyone of our school policy regarding severe weather and how we will communicate with you regarding school delays and closures. Although we take other school districts into consideration, we do not necessarily follow Lake Oswego or Tigard School Districts for school closures.
Inclement weather may occasionally make it necessary to cancel or delay school. Should this occur, any changes in the schedule will be announced on the school website and you will receive an email informing you of any delays or closures. These communications will be completed by 6:30 a.m. on the affected school day.
If severe weather conditions or other emergencies occur during the school day that require us to close early, parents will be called to pick up their children before the designated closing time. As always, the safety of our students and their families is our highest priority. If local weather conditions make you feel uncomfortable driving, please keep your child home from school.
Thank you,
Gordon Kingsley; Principal
